Alfaro wanted to honor her parents in her graduation photos, by taking them in the fruit fields where her mother still works.

She is the daughter of immigrant parents who were never able to attend school. When she got pregnant at 15-years-old, she dropped out of school and worked along-side her parents in the fields.

One day when she told her mother she was tired of working, her mother told her This is how life is going to be from now on. The only people who don’t have to go through this get an education.” That inspired her to go back to school.

Erica now has a psychology degree and her master’s in education from San Diego State University. She plans to become a school counselor.

Shout out to all the immigrants struggling to give their kids the best!
