Bulletproof backpacks are now in demand!

After the recent mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas this weekend, sales for bulletproof backpacks have risen at least 200%. 

With the new school year just around the corner, more and more companies are offering bulletproof backpacks that can cost up to $200. You can find some of these brands like, ArmorMe, in stores like Office Max, Office Depot and Kmart. 

According to ArmorMe, “The backpack is designed first of all to be a very stylish and nice-looking backpack, and it has panels that protect you against bullets. It will increase your survival chances.”

Other brands are creating and selling protective panels that can be placed into backpacks. 

However, gun safety advocates have their doubts about the backpacks. They have said that there is no evidence that these backpacks would keep children safe during a shooting, according to The New York Times. 

Since this weekend, multiple 2020 democratic candidates have expressed America’s need to take action and pass laws to stop gun violence.
