The series is titled Women Of The Movement.

HOV and Smith are producing the anthology series for ABC, according to ABC entertainment president Karey Burke; and will chronicle the civil rights movement from a black woman’s point of view.

The first season (eight episodes) will tell the story of Emmett Till, told from the perspective of his mother, Mamie Till, who worked to seek justice after her son’s brutal 1955 murder. Burke also mentioned the network is considering a second season focusing on Rosa Parks.

Kapital Entertainment will head production, and it will be written by Marissa Jo Cerar of The Handmaid’s Tale, 13 Reasons Why and The Fosters. Executive producers include, of course Jay-Z and Will Smith; as well as Jay Brown, Tyran Smith of Roc Nation, James Lassiter of Overbrook Entertainment, and Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor of Kapital Entertainment.

No word yet as far as when the series will air, but we’re thinking that when it does it will have something of the impact of Ava Duvernay’s When They See Us, and we know it will be POWERFUL!
