This year at the Cannes film festival a Whitney Houston documentary premiered. The film is an introspective look at the life of Whitney and was said to have created an emotional vibe amongst the crowd at the festival when it revealed that Houston was molested as a youth.
Houston’s family is not holding anything back in the new documentary by Kevin McDonald. The revelation of abuse, according to The Hollywood Reporter comes about a quarter of the way through the film. Houston’s brother Gary was the one that revealed that she was molested by a female family member while their mother was out of town. Gary also told filmmaker McDonald that the abuse took place between the ages of 7 and 9.
Houston’s assistant Mary Jones, who worked for her for year, also spoke on the topic saying that Houston has confided in her that her abuser was her own cousin Dee Dee Warwick. Jones mentioned that Houston always wondered if she had done anything to make Warwick want her. This abuse made Houston question her own sexuality and ultimately led her to drug abuse.
