It’s one thing to get some advice from a legend like Jay Z, but it’s also another thing for him to say he didn’t quite believe in your talent.

R&B newcomer SZA is having a breakout year as the first lady of TDE. With her debut album CTRL receiving acclaim from her industry peers and fans alike, the singer is now confessing that she was somewhat written off by the original Rock-A-Fella rapper, Sean Carter.

In a recent interview with DJ Semtex, SZA says, ‘He [Jay Z] was the first person to tell me that he thought I was a fluke, to my face.’ SZA admitted that her exchange with Jay happened before she dropped her CTRL debut and confesses that he didn’t mean it an offensive manner.

“He was just like you’re really good, youre pretty good, and I was like thanks. He said, ‘I thought you were a fluke’ and I was like ‘me too!’

SZA just received a Gold certification for her Travis Scott-assisted ‘Love Galore’ single and she is currently on tour in support of CTRL.
