Elijah Blake just dropped his video for “Hanging Tree,” which goes back to a painful time in African American history. The video was released in collaboration with Harry Belafonte’s Sankofa Organization. Elijah’s video for “Hanging Tree” has been getting a lot of praise from fans, and also from celebs like 50 Cent.

Elijah Blake, begins dressed in a tuxedo and slowly undresses to expose the scars from the painful past. The passionate singer expresses his pain while singing the lyrics to deliver his message. “I wrote “Hanging Tree” as a way to use my voice for equal rights, especially black rights, in the aftermath of tragedies like Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Freddie Gray, Tamir Rice and so many others whose voices have been silenced,” The singer said in a comment to FADER.
