What topics do you think came up in a convo between these two iconic individuals? Well, of course they talked music…Everything from Michael Jackson to Eminem. Rick Rubin even spoke on Hip Hop today saying that most of it is, “about vibe and swag and personality, and less about words. And it sometimes sounds like even the MC doesn’t know what he’s saying on a lot of today’s records.”
To which Kendrick responded with the artist that influenced him, “just studying Eminem when I was a kid.” Kendrick remembered,”How’s his words cutting through the beat like that? What is he doing that I’m not doing, now that I’m into it?”
The two legendary icons from the Hip Hop industry were brought together to have a discussion by GQ Magazine, which features Kendrick Lamar on it’s latest cover. This was the first time that Kendrick Lamar and Rick Rubin had ever met in person.
The meeting happened at Rubin’s famed Shangri-la Studio in Malibu, CA. The creative space must have inspired the two because after the interview there were clips of Kendrick and Rick in the studio, but the sound was muted. Could this be a hint at a collaboration?
