Kendrick Lamar holds the crown for “Lyricist of the Year,” an award that he took away during The BET Awards.
When Kendrick accepted the trophy, he said, “All glory to God.”
“This award right here, right now, mean more than anything. With that being said, I promise you this: as long as you keep music in your heart, in your soul, no matter what type of style, flow, beat, or creativity, I guarantee you, it’s one of those things that will always bring us together in this room. We right here for a reason, because of music.”
Then Kendrick said, “As long as I’m alive, I’m gon’ always be kicking that real motherfuckin’ shit. BET, I love y’all. Salute.”
Kenrick Lamar took home the award and beat out many talented lyricists in the category. Which included talented lyricists like J. Cole, Chance the Rapper, Kanye West, and Drake that were also nominated for the award.
