J.Cole Announces He Will Not Be Performing For “A Very Long Time”

J. Cole made an announcement during his performance at the Meadows Music and Arts Festival in New York City. The rapper says he won’t be doing anymore shows “for a very long time.”

J.Cole made the sudden announcement during the first day of the fest. “Before I get out of here, listen,” he said. “This is my last show for a very long time.” Cole didn’t say much else in regards to that statement, and did not elaborate, which left everyone guessing if he is going to retire from the game entirely. But, fans are now referencing the track “Jermaine’s Interlude” that Cole dropped on on DJ Khaled’s album. In which Cole says:

In hopes there’d be no more reason for cryin’

That shows you how stupid I am

Cause niggas is out here dying

From police that flash the siren

And pull up and just start firin’

Niggas murkin’ each other

In murky water I try and swim

How the fuck do I look

When I brag to you about some diamond?

Said all that I could say

Now I play with thoughts of retirement

Cole was performing at the concert to replace The Weeknd, who canceled his performance due to “unforeseen scheduling conflicts,” but was scheduled to be on Saturday Night Live that night.

This was the first Meadows Music Fest had performances by artists like Chance The Rapper and even Kanye West, who had to stop mid-set when he heard his wife Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room.
