It started out as lit bedtime stories for J. Cruz’s baby, Cameron, but it turned into a viral phenomenon. During interviews with #TheCruzShow, rappers are asked to freestyle but with a twist. Cruz hands over the children’s book, Llama Llama Red Pajama, and they’re supposed to read and flow to the book over a beat.
So far, rappers, such as Ludacris, Kid Ink, Migos, Jeezy, D.R.A.M., DJ Khaled, Remy Ma, and more have had the honor of contributing to a movement that aims to encourage reading for kids. USA Today recognized this movement and interviewed J. Cruz. “It shows the human side and vulnerable and playful side of them. A side that the audience doesn’t necessarily see or feel,” Cruz told USA. We definitely agree.
Parents have grown to love the segment as #TheCruzShow has received many emails and videos that show their appreciation of the Llama Llama freestyles.
