Power 106’s “Up Next” continues to bring the hottest and most talented artists to our exclusive performances. Recently, hip-hop rising star NLE Choppa joined Bryhana and DJ E-Man in our private studios, performing his popular hits and sitting on the hot seat to discuss his rise to stardom. The intimate setting, sponsored by Nissan Infiniti of Downtown LA, Pro Club and Dr. Pepper: Strawberries and Cream, provided lucky Power 106 listeners with a private performance they won’t forget.
Before the music took over, NLE Choppa sat down with Bryhana to give us a glimpse into his journey from Memphis to stardom. He didn’t hold back, sharing the challenges he faced growing up and being seen as a problem child.
“I was one of those kids who was always in trouble,” he told Bryhana. “When I looked in the mirror I was like, ‘Yo, I’m a mess up.’ or ‘I’m not the kid my parents wanted me to be.’”
NLE Choppa eventually pushed the self doubt aside to keep working on his music and get to where he is today, opening up about his experiences performing internationally, including shows in Israel. He expressed gratitude for Lil’ Wayne and their gold record collaboration, emphasizing the importance of showing appreciation to artists while they’re still here to enjoy it.
“Let’s make it a norm where we’re giving Kings and Queens, whoever deserves it, their flowers while they’re here.”
But it wasn’t all about music. NLE Choppa revealed his vegan journey, inspired by a newfound understanding of how diets can impact overall health, telling Bryhana he only rarely craves the meat in his grandma’s Jamaican cuisine. Passionate for community engagement, he shared his ongoing partnership with an elementary school campaign encouraging kids to read, also inspiring him to write a children’s book.
NLE Choppa talked about using manifestation to attract success, including his contributions to the Fast and Furious soundtrack and hoping to land acting roles in television and movies.
Finally, NLE Choppa took the stage to give us an exclusive taste of his explosive energy and talent. With performances of his hit tracks “Do it Again,” “Slut Me Out,” and “Ain’t Gonna Answer,” the crowd sang along and even got on stage to dance alongside NLE Choppa.
