Karen Civil spills the tea with The Cruz morning show about all of the latest drama in the rap game. From Drake and Pusha T to Tekashi 6ix9ine and Mac Miller, she goes in on everything happening right now while staying ‘Always Civil.’

Coming a long way since her intern days with New York staple Dj Funk Flex, Civil has become a leading voice in the culture and social media space where she has developed integral relationships with artists in the industry. As the host of Complex’s ‘Good Looking Out’ and the CEO of Always Civil Enterprises, Karen has had her hand in much of your favorite artists’ projects. Speaking on an array of hip-hop topics today, Civil sounded off the recent Post Malone headlines of his rap credibility.

I look at Post Malone, he’s an entertainer. I’m just going to say he’s an entertainer. I mean, he is a hip-hop artist, I’m just going to say he’s an entertainer because I think there was at a point he was like, “I’m not hip-hop, I’m not pop, I’m not this, I’m not that,” and was making all these statements. At this point, he’s an entertainer, he makes music. I’m not going to just sit on one defined label for him and I’m just going to call him an entertainer and keep it moving. I like some of his music.

Civil goes on to continue, “We gotta let go of what we think the ideal hip-hop person looks like. Now in this day and age, everyone looks different and it’s just like, so many people are making music and are a part of this culture, why not embrace it. And the great thing about it is, we can pick and choose what we want in our space.”

Karen also had an endearing friendship with the late rapper Mac Miller who passed early September. Sharing her last moments with Malcolm, Karen states:

The last thing that he said to me was I love you, I’m always going to be here for you. At the end of the day, it’s been very hard for me. I’m not going to pretend. At night, that’s when it hits me the most because that’s when I would talk to him and we would text or we would be on Facetime, just the little things…I just feel like he finds ways to bring himself back into my life and to let me know everything is going to be okay.

Karen Civil goes on to name Jay Rock, YG, Nipsey Hussle, Mac Miller, Teyana Taylor and Lil Wayne’s album releases as her favorite projects this year, gives her perspective on Pusha T’s Toronto attack drama and also comments on the news surrounding 6ix9ine’s Federal arrest.
