There is room to argue that among the hefty names sharing the billing for the Power 106 FM summer kickoff, Powerhouse 2016 was a radio concert of unlikely radio stars.
Along with a few surprises no one saw coming, Powerhouse 2016 was certainly one for the books, punctuated by an unannounced appearance from none other than Kanye West.
The opening third of the production aimed to set the bar high from the start as a trio of hip-hop’s buzzworthy prospects all turned in strong sets. Not listed, K Camp began the show to the surprise of fans smart enough to be prompt, turning in selections such as “Money Baby” and his latest “5 Minutes.” Powerhouse quickly became a party.
Brooklyn’s Joey Bada$$ channeled the ’90s New York-era of hp-hop with tracks such as “Christ Conscious” and “Like Water.” Opting to deliver lyrical bars instead of hook heavy singles, his continued momentum is as impressive as it is improbable. READ the rest of Ramons review for OC Register here
