Yeah the title of this blog post pretty much explains it all. Big up to Charlie for being nice, kinda makes you wanna meet him yourself.
Lol, LA drive-thrus, you never know what you're gunna get. What's your craziest drive-thru story? tell me below or on twitter @RikkiMartinez
This has got to be one of the most important interviews of my career thus far. For many reasons.
1 - I'm a big fan of Lupe Fiasco
2- He was NOT in a good mood coming into the station which is basically sudden death for a good interview (and as you will see in the first few minutes, things were definitely heading that way)
and 3 - because I wouldn't let the negativity in the room ruin the great conversation we ended up having.
I have to kick this off with saying how much I appreciate artists, especially those of the caliber in creativity as Lupe. I understand that their art is priceless and their time is so valuable. That's why I personally, have made it my mission to make every sit down worth it on both ends. I've interviewed Lupe quite enough times that I feel he knows ...
Hit up Red Bull Studios to listen to Ab-Soul's new album #TheseDays over the weekend.
Gotta be honest, went into the session not really knowing what to expect, the different sounds released from the album thus far didn't give me a clear concept for it but ohh did that change when I heard it in full.
First, I have to speak on the calm and polite attitude Ab-Soul exudes in person. Such a chill spirit. Same can really be said with TDE as a whole actually. The guys are always so welcoming and friendly. I think this makes their presence in the scene and in music that much sharper. Like silent assassins, everyone in the crew is so tranquil in person but once that track plays... they attack with some of the sharpest and unique voices and tones.
Now lets get into These Days. Meant to encapsulate the times we ...
"Great minds fxck eachother" -- yep that's how Ab-Soul's "Sapiosexual" kicks off and the dopeness continues throughout the rest of this J Cole produced track.
This is one of my favorite tracks off Ab-Soul's album These Days, THAT DROPS TOMORROW!! Cole production is awesome like always, but more than anything Soul's twist on a song about sex... for those who don't know check the meaning of Sapiosexual
I LOVE THIS!!!
Been waiting a long time to showcase this artist out of the south. OUTKAST gave him a huge look this week, putting Raury on their ATLast festival lineup, and it's left everyone asking "Who is Raury?" Well... take a listen/look here and get up on dude!
First off, Raury is 18, outta Atlanta, but don't expect him to sound like the typical souther rapper, he's his own type of jewel. Check his vid for "God's Whisper" below
And as cool as that is, it's his dope promo-campaign that hooked me onto Raury. His Anti Tour where he runs up on different shows taking place in his town, sets up shop, and puts on his own concerts, "Stealing fans". GENIUS! Check him outside of Tyler The Creator's show:
MAAAAN, you gotta salute that hustle!
What do you think of Raury? Let me know here or on twitter @RikkiMartinez
Meek Mill is approaching the drop of his sophmore album 'Dreams Worth More Than Money' and he came through the studio to let me in on it all! From working with Pharrell, showing Jay Z his music, beefing with Kendrick Lamar, and why this next album will solidify him in this game even moreso, peep it all below!
Should fans take rap beef personal?
What Meek loves the most about working with Pharrell and the disaster that ruined Meek's debut album.
It must be intense to show Jay Z your music, let alone be in the same room with him! So how did Meek Mill handle it and what was Hov's response to Meek's tracks.
I gotta tell ya'll, it was such a great time meeting Meek and really getting to sit down with him to discuss DWMTM. Dude is legit, and a great spirit.
The full video for Pills N Potions will drop on Monday, in the meantime tho! Here's a snippet! AAAAAND check out which west coast rapper's in this vid with her!
Oh and another goodie! Nicki is currently on twitter answering questions about the video :)
Winter hit LA last night as Dreamville's BAS headlined The Viper Room for his #LastWinterTour !
I attended and gotta say, this was one of the LIVEST shows I've been to. I'm literally in awe of the stage presence and personality BAS has. For a new artist to go on stage and have that much fun while executing and projecting so well is seriously VERY comendable.
The #Fiends in LA really came out with full energy too. I was surrounded by a crowd of people who knew songs word for word, chanted to BAS and really wiled out to the music.
And then COLE came out... bananas.
Big up to BAS, Dreamville and Interscope (BYZE ONE!) on the beautiful hospitality they showed me.
Using pix/vids from the crowd's IG accounts for ya'll by the way. I personally don't like having my phone up during a show. Takes away ...
Caught up with Funk Volume's Dizzy Wright at Powerhouse. Amazing spirit, dope raps and out to put Vegas on the hip hop map!
Check my chat with my dude below!
Sidenote: I know I looked super lame reciting Dizzy's name but I just can't see or hear Dizzy without rapping his line from "Young Jedi"... listen to this gem and love it like me!
Calling it RIGHT NOW, this is the BEST XXL Freshman Freestyle of 2014... no question! and no wonder Dr. Dre signed this mc from Flint, Michigan. Dude DELIVERS.
Get ready world, #TheseDays is on it's way and here's a listen into the much anticipated debut from TDE's own Black Lip Pastor
J Cole has stapled himself in this new era of hip hop and he does not come alone, nope! DREAMVILLE is the TEAM and BAS is it's next rising star. Had a chance to sit down with this Queens native straight off the release of his solid LAST WINTER project, check it all below!
