DJ Reflex Live From The Austin Music Festival! Listen Now!
I love mixing spontaneously live without much of a plan except to play cool music. The Austin Music Festival is an awesome place to get loose with the genres in a set.
1. The Neighbourhood "Sweater Weather" (Little Daylight Remix)
I can't say I love this remix better then the OG but it does help allow be to play this awesome song at shows. The Neighbourhood's album "I'm Sorry" is a really awesome piece of work and they are out of Los Angeles which I love.
2. Grandtheft - "My House"
Grandtheft is a Canadian producer/dj and friend of mine that made a big splash with his Diplo collab remix of Calvin Harris's "Sweet Nothing". He's always got some great musical ideas. Here he has produced a club banger.
3. Rihanna "Stay" (Branchez Remix)
I first was troubled that anyone would try and remix such a powerful song but the remixer used it more like a sample and pitched the vocals like we would sample soul records 10 years ago. I dig it.
4. Reflex "Body So Tight"
I produced this trappy record days before SXSW and wanted to see a crowd move to it, so I played it. Will I Am once told me "if an instrumental can't move the crowd, then the song probably won't either". I'm releasing this soon with an awesome rap feature.
5. Justin Timberlake "Suit and Tie Dillon Francis Remix"
Dillon Francis really freaked this and he adds a great stack of sounds on what is already a great record. I'm a sucker for "musical trap" at the moment.
6. Keys N Krates- Treat Me Right
My Canadian friends "Keys N Krates" have been making noise across the globe with their innovative performances and interesting interpretations of popular songs. This is their official first single off Dim Mak records.
7. Trinidad James "Females Welcomed"
Any soul samples with 808's usually get my attention. This is a just a catchy record that livens up the party.
8, Cashmere Cat "Paws"
With the exception of some sounds in this record, I love the idea of this. If I was an aspiring singer I would take all of their beats and write songs. "Soulful Trappyness" ... love it!
9. Kendrick Lamar ft. Jay-Z "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe" Remix
Over 2 years ago I asked fairly unknown rapper Kendrick Lamar to feature on a remix I produced for Foster The People and that was the first time he heard his voice on the radio. Fast forward to now and he has Hov featuring on one of the coolest rap records in years!
10, GTA and Diplo - Boy Oh Boy
Diplo always sends me edits that I rarely have to preview and can just throw on knowing he did something crazy.
11. Major Lazer - Bumaye
Again, Diplo! This is my jam while playing shows right now. I feel like Rocky at the top of the stairs when this drops.
12. Rhye "Open" (WMNStudies Bootleg)
So Rhye is amazing. The original of this song is beautiful and it makes me want to yell at my parents for never putting me in vocal lessons as a kid. What a masterpiece of a record, this remix allows me to play it out.
13. Toro Y Moi "Rose Quartz"
This is the type of music I enjoy to clear my mind. Great groove, use of sounds.
14. Solange "Losing You"
I dig Solange. I love the person she has evolved to and I love to hear her passion on this record. I have flashbacks of my mother dancing while cleaning the house with Whitney turned up loud when I hear this record.
15. Justin Timberlake "Let The Groove In"
Yes, how lame? I put two JT records in my set.... screw you, this is a fun jam and Justin is making all these lazy singers step their game up.
16. Capital Cities "Safe and Sound"
I have watched this band show and prove for the last year and it's great to see the response to their sound. This tune is a favorite of mine.
17. Disclosure feat. Sam Smith "Latch"
Every now and then a record drops and it makes you analyze everything else you are interested in. This record got my attention fast as it did many others. Sam Smith lends a great vocal to this vibey tune.
