Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gómez Joins Brown Bag Mornings: A Dive into Jaime Munguía vs Sergey Derevyachenko and the Thrilling World of Golden Boy Boxing

President of Golden Boy Promotions Eric Gómez joined Brown Bag Mornings to promote the highly-anticipated middleweight fight between Jaime Munguía and Sergey Derevyachenko, set to take place at the Toyota Center in Ontario on June 10 and talk all things Golden Boy Promotions.

The long-time Golden Boy executive shares insights on Ryan Garcia’s electrifying fight week against Gervonta “Tank” Davis last April, the organization’s Latino pride, Gómez’s journey from childhood friend to President, his analysis of Munguía’s Mexican boxing style against Derevyachenko, the bittersweet feelings surrounding the iconic fight between Oscar de la Hoya vs. Julio César Chávez, and the challenging decisions of matching his fighters against tough opposition.

Gómez immediately responded to Garcia’s emotional reaction to Oscar de la Hoya, his mentor and Golden Boy founder, not being present by his side at his last post-fight press conference. Gomez insisted that regardless of De la Hoya and Hopkins being absent, the Golden Boy team remained by Garcia’s side in defeat.

“Everybody from Golden Boy was there, our entire team was there,” Gómez told Brown Bag Mornings. “Emotions get the better of him. Nobody likes to lose.”

When asked about his beginnings in the company, Gómez shared his personal story discussing his childhood friendship with Oscar de la Hoya and the memorable path that led him to become the President of Golden Boy Promotions. Gómez also expressed the pride associated with Golden Boy Promotions being Latino-owned and operated and reaching success after starting from humble beginnings.

“We had to go against the Bob Arums, the Don Kings, you name it. And we’re holding our own.”

Going back on this Saturday’s thrilling card, Gómez raved about Munguía’s (41-0, 33KOs) renowned Mexican boxing style and broke down the key factors that will come into play in this highly-anticipated matchup.

The rising Mexican star will face off against the experienced Derevyachenko (15-4, 10KOs) in a middleweight showdown that counts as a step up in competition for Munguia. Derevyachenko, a skilled technician with an impressive resume, poses a tough challenge for Munguía, having shared the ring with multiple former world champions and most of his defeats coming via close decisions.

You can head to power106.com/goldenboy for your chance to win tickets to this exciting middleweight showdown and qualify for the VIP Grand Prize of a pair of floor seats, a picture in the ring and autographed boxing gloves. Tickets are also available for purchase via Ticketmaster. Fight coverage starts Saturday at 5pm PT / 8pm ET live exclusively on DAZN
